FlareSafe is a world-first – a Personal Safety Device that consists of a combination smoke detector, distress alarm and LED torch. FlareSafe is about safety and functionality – allowing you to head out into the world, see a slice of it, and then come home with some great memories. The purpose behind FlareSafe is a serious one – to save lives. After the Childers hostel fire in Australia in June 2000 in which 15 backpackers died, we started thinking about what travellers could take with them to avoid a similar catastrophe. We came up with FlareSafe, which combines an optical smoke detector, a distress alarm, and a powerful LED torch. Both of us are experienced travellers, and we are aware that the journey of a lifetime will by its nature involve an element of personal risk. Some risk can be taken care of by decent preparation, common sense and of course good travel insurance, but not all of it. That is why we see FlareSafe as a sensible extension to the usual package of precautions any traveller should take. Most travellers take a torch on the road, so why not take one with some potentially life-saving features too? .jpg)
